Romans 4:18-21
Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
This scripture declares that Abraham did not stagger through unbelief. Unbelief will cause your spirit to walk in an unsteady manner; it will appear as a drunken man. When the human body is intoxicated with alcohol it is compromised; meaning there is increased potential of danger and disgrace. A drunken man is not only vulnerable to danger but becomes a danger to others. His thought processes are irrational and his speech can become unrecognizable. He is useless in this state of drunkenness. He lacks insight and his vision is distorted. People who are drunk are incapable of making life or death decisions and are unfit to operate in any level of real authority.
If we relate the above information about physical drunkenness to spiritual drunkenness it would be pretty similar.
The stagger of unbelief is a dangerous gait; we would be unwise to participate and indulge in its deadly fate. Abraham had a strait gait because he refused to cooperate with the bait of unbelief.
Abraham chose to swagger in the words of the Most High God; instead of staggering in his own human limitations. Abraham chose to believe God even when it looked impossible in the natural. He knew that his physical body was past the age of reproductive fruitfulness and that he had no natural ability or seed left to produce in his own strength (body) but he turned away from being self-conscious and looked to God, El Shaddai, the All Sufficient One. Abraham was not boasting in his own ability but rather the ability and faithfulness of his God. The scriptures declare that Abraham was strong in faith. I believe he had built himself up meditating on the promises of God until he became strong. When we meditate on God’s promises instead of the problem we build our faith muscles and we become strong in the Lord and in the power of His Might. This pleases and glorifies God. Abraham’s consistent focus and loyalty to what God had spoken to him allowed that same word to flood his heart with light until he became fully persuaded. Abraham was supernaturally convinced that God would not falter or fail on His promise but would indeed fulfill His word just like He said He would.
We can always trust God to do His part and keep His word to us; He is the Faithful God that keeps covenant promises.
So go ahead and swagger; let your faith in God put a glide in your stride and pep in your step as you walk confidently with your God.
Amen, the word of God and a personal relationship with God keeps us from staggering through life*
