Today in our Sunday morning service, at the Correctional
facility here in Kansas, I began a series on Prayer. I believe prayer is the
answer to every question, problem or situation (good or bad), we may experience
in life. The scriptures reveal to us that we should pray in everything: Be
careful for nothing; but in every
thing by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6
Notice in this scripture that God is instructing us to pray
in everything. Your situation does not need human advice or opinion, it needs
God’s wisdom and counsel, and that is acquired by asking (praying) for it (James
1:5). Psalms 1, also tells us that; blessed is the man who walks not in the
counsel of the ungodly … Well, the word ungodly is anything that does not
agree with God’s plans and purposes, anything opposed to God’s ways and His
thoughts. It takes faith to live a blessed, victorious life, it doesn’t just happen, even
though, it is God’s will for our lives.
Hebrews 11: 6 says, But without faith it is impossible to
please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them who diligently seek him.
Seeking is a form of prayer that God has made available to us so that we can communicate effectively with Him, but we must participate. Matthew 7:7-8 says, Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
As we further study the scriptures, it clearly teaches us that we must ask (pray) according to His will (1 John 5:14-15); God’s will is His Word. Now we see that we must pray (ask) according to God’s Word, His plans and purposes, if we want to have good success in everything. It’s not according to our natural human understanding, our lives should be directed by the Spirit of God and the Word of God; and by the way, they both agree with each other. Proverbs 3:5-6 says we should; Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
We need to trust God, in everything! We demonstrate our trust through prayer. We choose not to carry the burdens, and/or successes of life on our own shoulders. We refuse to be anxious and worry; however, we choose to trust the Lord, and carry everything to God in prayer.
Isn't it time to make that commitment today, He is waiting to hear from you.
